My new mission in life at this very second is to debunk the notion that Machiavelli is some cynical prick who throws himself at the feet of despots and tells'em that fear is good and kill the innocent and blablabla allahuakhbar.I guess it's more of a fantasy, though, because Isaiah Berlin already did it. "The Originality of Machiavelli" had me in its grips for a ten hour flight from Paris to Miami, and I look at the world with new eyes.
I knew I learned Italian for a reason.
